How it works
Enter both purchase prices, the gas car’s MPG and fuel price, the EV’s efficiency and electricity price, and your annual miles. The calculator totals five years of purchase-plus-energy cost for each side and names the cheaper one.

FAQ
Does it include maintenance?
No — purchase price plus fuel and charging only. EVs typically cost less to maintain (no oil changes, less brake wear), which would narrow the gap.
What about EV tax credits?
Excluded. A federal or state credit would improve the EV side of the comparison, sometimes substantially.
Does it include a home charger?
No. Charger hardware and installation costs are excluded; public fast charging is also typically pricier than the home rate used here.
